Pier 1 inspired

I ran across this pumpkin in Pier 1.  I thought it was so unique. I really wanted it until I looked at the price tag ouch!! they wanted $79 for it.  Even now on sale it is still $39.  Not in my budget even though it would be a classic decoration for years to come.  So why am I posting about something I wouldn't buy?  Well on one of my shopping trips to Hobby Lobby I saw this wire pumpkin candle holder and Bingo! the light went off.  If I got this I could fill it with orange colored Christmas balls.  Hummm!

I went to check out the ornaments and half way up the wall (where you have to have the ladder!) were some orange colored ornaments.  Was there someone to help?  "NO" so I only bought the wire pumpkin, it was half off making it $11.00.  Thought I would get the ornaments at another time.  Well I was there another time and still the prospect of finding someone to help was going to take to long.  Then this weekend I was out estate saleing and my journey happen to take me right by Garden Ridge.  I found a painting that I love for my dinning room and they had a box of orange ornaments for $4.99.

I couldn't wait to get home and put it all together.  Take a look and tell me what you think about my version!!!!!  I love it and my biggest critics (my children) all seem to approve!!!

The Old Gal Still Has It!

When I was a young mother I loved crafting.  I taught myself how to do all kinds of needle work.  I learned how to Tole paint and sew.  I was always on the lookout for fun cute things to make.  As my children got older and became involved in more things and I worked full time.  I found that I didn't have the time or energy for anything else.  Now I have more time to do things that I enjoy. But mostly along came "Pintrest"  I don't have to leave the comfort of my home to see the latest crafts.  I love it!!!!  This Halloween wreath caught my eye.   I clicked on over to sassysanctuary skimmed her directions and said "OH yeah I can do this!"  It's not that easy getting back into the craft world.  I found that I don't like shopping on a time table.  I have a limited amount of time after work before I need to be home to help with Kenneth.  I usually don't find everything that I need at one store.  Craft stores don't have enough cashiers and Fabric stores think that no one is in a hurry!  I finally got all the things that I needed.  I ripped the fabric into the pieces and started tying and tying and tying.  Two hours later I was out of fabric and only half way done with the wreath.  I had to make another trip for more fabric, one of the "E's" was broken from the store and they didn't have anymore(another store to visit)  Soooo after 5 hours of  tying, 4 yards of fabric (I bought the wrong size  wreath form) and 3 trips to multiple stores,  I have what I'm referring to "the family heirloom Halloween wreath." Hey the old gal still has it!  My family all complimented me on it.  And it was fun!!!!!

I love Halloween!

I love this time of the year! When my children were growing up Kelly always wanted me to decorate for Halloween. We would do things inside and out. Now that they are older I don't do as much. But, this year I wanted to do something really fun for the grand-kids (or was it?.....) This is what I came up with. The large spiders and the ghost all light up and all but the big ghost change colors. It was fun doing it. And it's really fun to look at with the lights out.....

I love the cute and fun side of Halloween. I love seeing the kids dressed in there Halloween customs and the funny things they say when they come to the door trick or treating. I enjoy going with my grand kids and seeing the joy on their faces when they get back with their loot! I enjoy seeing others like me getting joy as the kids ring their door bells and holler Trick-or-treat! I'm always amazed that there are still people that leave bowls of candy out for the kids when they aren't even home. I'm pleased that the children in our neighborhood are respectful when their neighbors have their porch light out.

Frenchy Desk

Another great weekend! Went to see Crazy, Stupid, Love with some good friends. There is some questionable scenes but there is some really funny ones too. At one point I laughed so hard I cried. It might have been because I've survived raising 4 teenage children!!!! The best part of the weekend was reviewing craigslist and seeing something that I missed earlier in the day! Right there in black and white print "french style desk" Do I need another desk? NO but it's french!!! I quickly asked when I could come and see it. Ugh! someone had beat be to it. Saturday morning there was an email from the desk lady saying that the other person didn't want it. YES! I called and got the address and went over to see it. Thinking there had to be something really wrong with it, for someone not to want it. There's a few minor repairs that need to be done, but nothing I can't do. After a coat of paint you will never know she had a blemish! I'm thinking of painting her with ASCP. I'm going to lighten the graphite add a little blue and see what happens. On the raised part I think I will paint that white. And then maybe add a bit of glazing to her. I'll take pictures of her journey into stardom! Can't wait to get started!

Need to fix the cardboard that is falling down!
